Egg Carton Color Sorting
Use an egg carton as a sorting tray for colorful items, a perfect first sorting and color-matching activity.
In the Little Play app, this activity appears in week 37 of your baby's personalized plan.
How to play
1
Take an empty egg carton and place a colored dot or piece of paper in the bottom of each cup.
2
Gather small colorful items: pompoms, large buttons, or crumpled tissue paper balls.
3
Show baby how to place a matching-colored item in each cup.
4
Even if they don't match colors yet, the act of placing items into cups is wonderful fine motor practice!
What you need
• An empty egg carton
• Colored paper or stickers
• Colorful pompoms or large buttons
Simple household items. No plastic toys needed.
Why it works
Sorting builds early math skills like categorization and matching. Placing small items into cups develops pincer grasp and hand-eye coordination.
Good to know
Use only items that are too large to be a choking hazard. Large pompoms are the safest choice for this age.
