Household Treasure Basket
Fill a basket with safe, interesting household items and let baby explore each one, a Montessori-inspired discovery session.
In the Little Play app, this activity appears in week 37 of your baby's personalized plan.
How to play
1
Gather 8-10 safe household items: a wooden spoon, a whisk, a clean sponge, a measuring cup, a silk scarf, a pinecone, a small mirror.
2
Place them all in a low basket or bowl where baby can reach them.
3
Sit nearby and let baby explore freely, picking up, mouthing, banging, and comparing items.
4
Narrate their discoveries: "You found the whisk! It has lots of metal loops."
What you need
• A basket or bowl
• 8-10 safe household items of varied textures, weights, and materials
Simple household items. No plastic toys needed.
Why it works
Treasure baskets develop concentration, decision-making, and sensory processing. Each item teaches about a different material property, weight, texture, sound, temperature.
Good to know
Check every item for small parts, sharp edges, or choking hazards. Only include items large enough that baby cannot swallow them.
