Jello Sensory Tray, a baby activity for 2–6 months

How to play

1
Make jello according to the package directions using natural food coloring and let it set in the fridge.
2
Cut the set jello into big wobbly cubes and place them directly on baby's high chair tray or a baking sheet.
3
Let baby poke, squish, and grab the jello with their hands; it's messy and wonderful!
4
Try different colors side by side so they can smash them together and watch colors mix.

What you need

• Gelatin powder or a box of jello
• Natural food coloring (optional)
• A high chair tray or baking sheet

Simple household items. No plastic toys needed.

Why it works

Squishy textures strengthen hand muscles and encourage finger isolation. The cold, wobbly feel is a unique sensory experience that builds curiosity and exploration.

Good to know

Use unflavored gelatin with food coloring for a taste-safe version, or regular jello is fine since a little nibble won't hurt. Supervise closely and clean up when done.
